Mary MacLean

DSC_7776_pp.JPG

Born and raised in P.E.I. Mary enjoys nature and animals and this is evident in her art. The landscapes, seascapes, flowers and animals of Prince Edward Island provide an endless supply of inspiration. Many of her paintings depict scenes in rural Kings County, P.E.I. where she spends the summer months. Mary’s goal is to create paintings which leave the viewer uplifted through beauty and colour.
Mary creates a variety of techniques with acrylic paint including watercolor effects, transparent glazes, negative painting, textured and impasto effects with brushes and palette knife. She favors a modern impressionist style and bold colour. Her painting time is usually spent with her trusty wiener dog (dachshund) Sammy by her side.
Mary studied painting with well know PEI painters Henry Purdy and Sandi Komst. In addition she has taken workshops under Canadian Artists Brian Atyeo, Mike Svob, Linda Kemp, Monica Wright and California Artist Robert Burridge. In addition to these instructors artistic inspirations include the Canadian group of Seven, and the original impressionist painters.
Mary is a member of Artisans on Main in Montague and Souris. She holds a BSc. in Pharmacy and spent over 30 years working as a healthcare professional and business person. In addition to painting Mary creates handcrafted jewelry.
